squeeling new belts?
Second the squeeling and smell of burnt rubber on startup.. I went and replaced all the belts.. Alternator,,powersteering, and smog. Check. There nice and tight and still squeel when it starts up and the smell of burnt rubber is still there. Is a pully out of wack? This happened a few weeks ago and I just tightened the alternator belt and it seemed to cure it until now. Im in alaska *minues ten degrees right now* so working on it outside is in short spurts. I got a suggestion to take one belt at a time and turn it over to see if its the pully or not. I also got a suggestion that it could be just old powersteering fluid gumed up so much that it wont let the pully turn and the belts are just forcing it to turn. Should i drain it and put in some fresh stuff? This truck has never done this before and the entire engine was rebuilt including the truck a few years ago and I mean everything. Now things are going out little stuff at a time. starter.. etc. I can only think that the alternator is going out which still works *had tested last month* but the pully is bad. Thanks in advance.
