I installed the AFE Stage II intake last fall and had no trouble with the installation. No mods needed. The large hole in the bottom is for a wire going to the air filter restriction gauge on the '02 up with the indicator in the dash. I used a plastic plug close the hole in the grommet, since I didn't have this wire on my '01. The air temp sensor fit just fine in the smaller grommet. I have been very pleased with this intake as it did what I had expected.
Glad to hear that others had an easy time installing the intake system. I've continued to be impressed by its performance. After reading recent posts, it seems I installed the tube with the flange on the outside of the box, rather than the inside. It seems that doing this correctly would have likely kept me from having difficulty installing the tube. As for the bolt holes lining up... had I installed it correctly they might have, though I'm skeptical after knowing just how far they were off.
The large hole in the bottom is most definitely for the wire to the air filter restriction gauge which my '01 doesn't have, and I plugged it as well. However, I'm surprised to hear some say the air temp sensor fit easily into the smaller grommet. Not sure I could have done something wrong there, but who knows, considering I installed the tube incorrectly!!! I'll be leaving my system the way I have it since it seems to fit and function well the way I have it currently, but clearly the installation can be made easier by following sgrol's hint and having better luck than I did!!
