Alwright bought my 99 V10 ex.cab short bed 4X4 4.30 gears 2 weeks ago tomarrow. All ready pulled snowmobile trailer too the U.P. of Michigan with it no problems. Well last nite I decided to see how fast it is in a 1/4 mile no trailer on back lol. So last nite I lined up in front of my buddys house, I takoff I get up to around 55 or 60 and the truck would pull and a split second later it wouldnt it did it about twice and I let off, I was like WTF. The RPMs never jumped so I dont think it was motor related I think my damn tranny was slippin. Also if im taking it easy on it and it goes to shift in over drive it will rev a little and shift but only in that gear though. Am I freaking out for no reason or is that normal? Thanks Jeremy
I can't speak to the automatic, but my manual does 70 mph at about 2100 rpm. So if I double the rpms to 4200, the truck would be trying to go 140mph. People talk about running these engines well in excess of 5,000 rpm in lower gears up mountain passes.
The ratings on the tires are nowhere near 150 mph so you can bet the automatic is limited too...
what about fuel volume?? My cousin was telling me he's came across several V10 equipped trucks that also did this same thing... checking the fuel pressure indicated no problem, and after process of elimination, he opted to replace the fuel pumps and in both cases, the problem went away. Trucks pulled hard all the way thru the gears (automatics) and no hestiation, ping, stalling out, nothing. Seems some of the fuel pumps cannot put out enough volume at high rpms to keep up with the demand of the motor. I was wondering if anyone makes a hi-volume fuel pump for the V10 equipped Fords?
