New Tires

ive got a 2x4 2000 EB and its time to change the tires, what I would like to know is that its currentyl on 265/70/17, if I was to switch to 285/75/17 would the Expy look funny ? will it rub when I take tight turns ? are there any MAJOR drawbacks ?

I don't know if there are any "physical" limitations as to whether the vehicle can take them. However I think I remember reading on another thread a few days ago that if you change from the original size you need to have something recalibrated to account for the new tire size else your speedometer will not give you the correct speed of the vehicle. They were only taking about a few mph nothing major but still incorrect nonetheless.

good luck boomer - i just wanted to know if 285/75/16 would work with no rubbing on my 2000 2x4 eb. no one seemed to know...

i have read that 285/75/16 will work on 4x4s, but i kinda suspect that 285/75/17 will not work on a 2x4 without rubbing.

i do think it would look good, filling out the wheel wells nicely (if thats the look you're going for)

i just decided to go with 265/75/16 which ends up about the same diameter as our current 265/70/17. i'm changing the rims cuz i hate the stock cheesy steel/chrome ones.

as far as drawbacks (besides probable rubbing with 285/75/17) might be slower off the start, lower mpg, and a speedo that's off (unless you recalibrate) - at least this is what i've heard from others.

Well I was thinking of going 285 since I need new tires and I think it would look good at the same time. I might just go to Walmart and try it out, I spoke to the manager and he agreed to let me try it for 3 days and if there were any probs then he would let me downsize to 265 so wish me luck !

blindguy - i bought a set of firestone destination a/t 265/75/16. they are rated VERY high on tirerack.com and i like the look. 468 for the tires at america's tire co/discount tire co. i also replaced my stock cheesy chrome rims with a set of unique (name of brand) black steel rims (cheap and simple). price after balance/tax/replacement certs/shipping (they don't normally carry firestone) was 960. i'm hoping to sell my stock setup to recoup a bit of the price.

boomer - that's cool the guy at walmart is letting you try the tires (though i refuse to shop there). make sure you go over some ruff roads and do plenty of sharp turning during your tryout days and let us know how it goes (and good luck!)

I remember having a set of Firestone tires as the "original" original equipment before the recall. Can't recall which model, but I do know that I had no complaints what so ever...they gave a very nice ride as well.
