get the books that list wholesale and retail prices first, no matter what vehicle you are interested in, and figure out what you want before you go to dealer. Keep in mind that every deal is is three parts, no matter how the dealer trys to tie them together: new vehicle, sale(trade in ) of old, and financing if needed. I have had good luck over the years negeotiating each deal seperately. If a dealer won't tell you what they will pay for your trade without you firmly deciding on a particular vehicle, run, don't walk, away. The same for dealers that put their own stickers on new vehicles for stuff you wouldn't have wanted and try to use the new, higher price as basis for negeotiation. Do you really want that $900 pinstripe that they tell you "every car has to have it"???
I would like to add the warranty pricing to the end of the deal. BE CAREFUL! Dealers make (or can make) 80,000 to 100,000 per month on warranty package sales.....
On my 99 Contour the dealer wanted 2,300 for 75,000 mile warranty package I KNEW I could get it on the internet for 700.00 to 800.00 ,50.00 deductible ,(dealer 100.00 deductible)
I did not buy the package from the dealer EVEN after he came down to 720.00 and showed me his real pricing book!!
THEN to top it off he had included the warranty price in the vehicle in the contract that he wanted me to sign....
I caught him red handed!!
Many people DONT!!
