1948 f2 specs

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting on this site,so bear with me if I don't do it properly.
I got a 1948 F-2 with a 8ft bed for x-mas from my wife this year for a restore project. I cant find any info on the specs of this truck any where. I need to know the curb weight and what motor and trans is in it. I need to haul it from western ohio back to south central PA and need to know what trailer can haul it. it also has some sort of in line 6 cyl. motor in it- not a flat head. i think it's a 3 or 4 speed on the floor. My brother in law said it may have been used as a tow truck at some time because of all the extra switches in the cab! PLEASE HELP!!!

As I recall the actual curb weight is around 3800 pounds. I believe "Earl's" excellent reference site has this info on the spec sheet.

You came to right place for the info you are looking for. Here's a fuzzy drawing, hope this helps.

I haul my '49 F-2 on a standard car trailer with no problems.

Welcome to the group. Glad to see someone else working to save a big truck. My '52 literature, which should be the same as '48, says an F-2's curb weight with 7.50 x 16 tires is 3,272 pounds. You might also have 6.50 or 7.00 x 16s which naturally weigh less. You'll probably need an 18' trailer or bigger. I use a 20 footer. Your motor is not original. The OHV inline 6 was first introduced in '52. Yours would have been a flat head. The tranny that was standard was a 4 speed "spur", meaning straight cut/no sychro. A H.D. 3 speed synchro was an option. Hope that gets you started.

Earl's page says the F-2 express bed is 3,800#, I think the 3272 number is an F-1

GVW including fuel and water was between 3738 and 3792 depening on which wheels and tires were used.
From the 1948 Ford Truck Handbook (Salesman's Book).

Sorry guys, I looked at the chart but not the heading. The 3272 is for a cab and chassis F-2. Both brochures that I'm looking at show Express bed equipped F-2s have curb weight of between 3698 and 3752 (depending on tires) with an inline 6. It shows that you add 40 for a V8 which yields the 3792. Now we're together.

Smile 1948 f-2 motor swap

Can anyone tell me how hard it would be to put a 351 and c-4 or 6 tranny in a 1948 f-2? any kits available? The motor in it isn't original, so i figured i might as well upgrade? Any forseen problems? What about a new front steering system? i want it to look stock, but have the rumble and power and comfort too! not too much too ask...hahahahahaha!! or would a 302 be enough to make her move pretty good?

Engine swaps aren't too bad in these old trucks. You can get off the shelf universal fit cross members (cut to width and bolt in) for both the engine and tranny. I'm using one to drop a 400M C-6 combo into my 52 F-3.

Welcome to the board!!
There is tons of room under the hoods of these trucks. I stuffed a 500ci Caddy in my F1.
When you get a chance take some pics of the beast so we can all see it

We're glad to have you
Bobby
