Does a 2001 sport trac even have a PCV valve? I tried advance and the dealer and they dont have a part listed. I was wanting to replace for some of the symptoms I have but cant find it. The haynes manual I have is generic and at the time I bought it the only one they had out was up to the 00 Explorer.
Look under the hood at the emissions sticker. It will tell you if you have one. I can't imagine a car without one, a modern car that is. They are always in the valve cover. Look there for any hoses running to the intake manifold side of vacuum.
If it's a 4.0 SOHC, there is one and it sits up kinda high close to the firewall. Sort of tough to remove. Check the Autozone site to verify it's not listed.
Nothing at all is stickin "up" off the valve covers. There is something sticking out horizontal towards the firewall. But looking at other pcv's most of them have to be sticking up for the mechanism in them that allow the fumes to escape. I checked the front sticker and did see it on the diagram but for the life of me cant relate it to where it is on the engine.
If you have the 4.0L SOHC engine, the PVC valve is where srercrcr stated. On the back of motor between cylinder heads, below upper intake manifold. It is covered in tubing and spark plug wires. It is a pain in the @#$ to get at and believe it or not at least on the 97 Exploreres uses a tie wrap to hold bottom tube to PVC valve. the upper part of PVC has a "Y" connector that you can not easily remove. Ford and aftermarket sell PVC, but without the "Y" connector. Good luck getting it off the old PVC vlave. I used carb cleaner to clean old PVC valve every 30,000 miles with no problems, and then reinstalled. This way I did not have to take PVC apart. I never had the PVC valve gum up on me. I hope this helps.
