preventative maintenance explorer 4.0?
1. replace the belt tensioner pulley at 100,000 miles
2. replace the fan belt idler at 100,000 miles
both went out on me at about 130,000 miles.
i have had the truck since it had 67,000 miles on it and those were the only things that have ever gone bad ( besides a rear wheel seal)
so i figured id point that out they are cheap and easy to replace and might just save you form being late some day.
Any other problems that are common occurences out there.
by the way mine is a 95 4 door with 154,000 on the 4.0 auto 4x4
Im going to change this over to all EX MO AND AVi's
list year mileage and motor for us.

I think I agree with you about changing them at 100K.
Along with the belt.
The 2000 tranny calls for Mercon V semi-synthetic. I flushed mine at 85K. If it weren't syn I would do at 50K.
I also flush out the power steering fluid (at 85K). Protect that rack!

A huge believer in preventive maintenance.
I had a 93 with 4.0 OHV motor, which I put on 110,000 troublefree miles. I changed the sparkplugs, and PVC every 30,000 miles. The wires every 60,000 miles. The transmission was serviced every year or 30,000 miles whichever came first. I changed the oil every 2,500-3,000 miles. The fuel filter I changed once a year. The transfer case and differentials had their fluid changed at 100,000 miles. Air Filter and belts were checked every oil change and replaced when necessary. I did approximatly 20,000 to 30,000 miles a year, including towing a boat trailer. I traded 93 in for a 97 with the 4.0 SOHC. Only problems I had with that were the timing chain issue at 20k, the transfer case shift motor died (under warranty thank god) and the thermostat. I just traded the 97 in for a 05 wit hthe 4.6L V8. I hope for the same service I had with the previous two Explorers.

Transmission modulator.
Tighten the lower intake bolts when you change your oil.
I'm also going to be changing the lower intake manifold gasket in the next few months.
Mine's a 94 with 120k.
