i was driving my 96 ford explorer 4.0L V6 and i went through a puddle and sucked water in my intake. i blame it an myself and the fact that fords intake tube is soo low to the ground. well anyways i took out all of the plugs and tried to crank it so i could get all of the water out. i wouldnt move soo i poured marvel mystery oil in all of the cylenders and let it sit for a while and still nothing. now im confused and i cant get to the balencer to put a breaker bar on there because the fan is in the way and that wont come off.
It doesnt sound good...you may want to look into a boneyard engine for it,or rebuilding this one...are you sure there is water in the crankcase? Did you check to see if the oil is milky?....I know,it may sounds simple, but you need to start at the simplest and work up from there...but if it will not break free after you put marvel down the cylinders..it sounds like pistons are seized up tight in the bores....
i drained it and it didnt look too bad then i took the starter off to see if i fried that but that works then i tried to turn the flywheel but it wouldnt budge. i can get a used motor at the junk yard for $350
As long as he will stand behind that junkyard engine..go for it...if it is a sohc..change out timing chain components(chains,guides,tensioners..) before putting into the x.....that and make sure your upper intake and tb are clean and carbon-free...enjoy..I have replaced a couple of engines so I know as long as you do your homework and have pretty much what you need..it makes life a lot easier..that and a couple of friends and a 12pk of good beer nice and icee cold!
take some starting fluid and spray it into your intake. also spray your plugs with wd-40
check your engine oil out and flush it mmo doesn't do squat.
any more questions just ask
You need to get a breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt. If the plugs are out of it, and you can't turn the motor by hand, then you have probably hyrdo-locked the motor. Good luck..
ok i was driving on a small service road and the puddle was about 3 ft deep and the engine did stall in the middle of the puddle, we pushed it out it was about knee deep. its automatic... i tried to turn the crank with a breaker bar and it wont turn over. i took off the air filter and it was wet soo i know i sucked water into it..
This recently happened to my neighbor, but her car eventuall started but had a bad knock in the engine. She kept the comprehensive insurance (fire, theft, etc) on the vehicle. The insurance company looked at the car and totalled it, at least she got some money for it. It may be worth calling your insurance agent to see if your covered for flood. Good luck.
the puddle was about 3 ft deep
ok thats not a puddle thats a damn river!
LOL...yep you are right-on there...a river... that is definately snorkel depth. Three feet is only 3 inches below the the door handles on my stock 1998 Explorer and about 3 inches above my stock air intake. It is also way above spark plug hight. Need to install and close all watertight hatches before submerging to that depth.

This is a long shot.(1) Pull all the plugs pull the timing chain cover and see if the chain broken, if not take the chain off see if the crank well turn now. My sister was run off the road and was put in a lake and did the same thing, the timing chain broke and fell down round the crank and timing cover and you could not move it. Put a new chain on and it started right up and shes driving it now. LIKE I SAID A LONG SHOT.
(2) Forgot about this pull your valve covers on push rod motor undo the rocker arms and see if all the valves come all the way up should be even all the way across. If not valve job, this works for over head cams to.
(3) If you get to this part and everthing is good up top now you come to the bad part need a jack, block of wood, put the jack and wood under the balancer undo the motor mounts lift the moter up pull the oil pan (drain pan first) and look at the connecting rods and see if there bent. If so junk the motor.
well when i frist rolled up to this "river" i got out and walked into it and it diddnt seem too deep so i decided to go for it little did i realize it had a huge rut twords the end. kinda like this
---------------_______------
so the shallow end was like 1 ft but it got deep twards the end
