well just last week one of the sockets burnt out in my left tail light on my 87 ford ranger XLT. Take the advantage of having something broke to fix i thought of a plan to create all new costom LED tail lights for less then a $100 bucks the looked good and functioned well. LUcky enough i got my own personal dremal for christmas and i have a new toy to play with. this is what i have done so far.
i flushed mounted a led clear red tail, with a 3 wire system that matches perfectly with the one found in the upper light of the tail. I plan to finnish its with matching the rest of the tail with the paint on the back of the truck, and still matianing the back up light but taping it of to give it a special shape. I will keep you updated as i go along if anyones interested.
Are you using an array of LEDs like what is found in many OEM setups? Those replacement LED bulbs found in parts stores aren't anywhere near bright enough.
yeah a array, i don't have the time or the steady hand to create one out of replacement bulbs. Th whole array is held in by the black rubber grommet shown. the best part is if the array burns out i can get a whole replacment array, so i don't have to worry about single bulb replacing.
update. The left tail is compleatly done. At this momment the paint is dried and touched up. i should have a picture later of what it looks like. Right now i am waititng for the shipment of the second array, which has taken over 2 days longer to ship then qouted(leave it to auto zone ). As soon as it arrives i do the compleat set up with pics and show you how it looks.
well here is the paint updated picture of the compleated left tail.
sorry the pic is bad i use dmy camera phone. i am trying to get the other one done but autozone lossed my order and din't ship it . so the manager is having on fed exed tom to the store and gave me a partial refund. so hopefully i can have them on and painted by sat when i leave for culinary school.
