i dont know if this is true, but i'll say it anyway b/c it sounds logical. aluminum and cast iron expand and contract at different temps, so the intake gaskets tend to go out more on aluminum heads. i'd go w/the cast iron b/c i'm cheap like that, and i wouldnt wanna be tearing the engine down more than i have to.

but performance wise can i get the same out of the cast iron? i was told they would be better because they can take more of a beating (4wheelin)? any ideas?
I'm no engine expert, but I would say that a GREAT set of heads will only get you so far if the rest of the motor isn't built to the same standards. If you've got an aggressive cam with some high compression pistons, then you should spend the money on a good set of heads. If your simply going to do a basic build up, I would suspect that iron heads with some attention would suit your purposes just fine. But that's just a SWAG.

There is my $.02, keep the change.
cast aluminum pistons dish style
cam is .494
new crank (to make 351M a 400)
I don't know enough about pistons or cam's to answer that question, but I would think that a stroker kit would be a pretty standard upgrade for the 351 M and it alone would not warrant a high dollar head.
keep the irons... they only weigh a little more than the aluminums... and the aluminums will only be a higher performance head if you order it w/larger ports, valves, and a smaller chambers than the originals.
i'd keep the original heads myself b/c they have a good flow
You have to talk with tim meyer. He's the expert for the 400. I just order a set of piston from him for my aussie heads. 9.5-9.7 compression. he also sell stroker kit 434.
