using that kind of puller you may pull it apart and break it. there should be 3 open slots around the inside circle of the unit get a 3 jaw puller and insert in those slots.
Are you sure you have a y-block? I have three y-blocks and all of them have two 3/8" coarse thread bolt holes in the balancer face . Maybe they are full of crud and you can't see them. Is the engine in the car?
The engine is a Y-block, but it is from a '55 T-Bird. The damper has a double sheave pulley riveted to the balancer. The balancer itself is held on to the crankshaft with a 9/16" bolt down the center. There are two slots, each about 1-1/2" x 5/8", on opposite sides of the pulley itself. Other than the center bolt, there are no bolt holes in the damper and, if there were, the pulley would make it impossible to get to them as the pulley centers are not slotted, but solid.
I could post a picture, but I'm not sure how to do that.
Thanks.
Sorry, I didn't know it was a t-bird engine, which does have the pulley riveted to the balancer. I think you would be allright pulling on the sheave, it is not directly connected to the rubber ring portion of the balancer.
Do not pull on the sheave or you'll be buying yourself a new balancer. I fabricated a puller to pull the balancer off after I ruined it by pulling on the sheave.
Check the T-Bird part suppliers. CASCO has the puller for $39.45 and the installing tool for $36.45. Should be available on line www.classictbird.com
Other suppliers should have them too.
