From what I'm told by my neighbor (who I bought it from) the tank has been replaced recently.
From what I can tell from catalogs and my haynes repair manual, it looks like the tank sits on the skidplate? There are only straps over the top of the tank.
Does this design make it more prone to developing leaks when dirt, salt, etc. gets in there? Is there something that can be done to prevent it from developing another leak in another couple of years? I don't want to have to buy another $180 tank again if I don't have to.
I am pretty sure that the leak is at the very bottom, since it will drain to almost nothing if left long enough, and I can't see any stains on the sides - although I can't see the front and back of the tank until I get the skid plate off.
There is no way a fuel tank should cost that much....I replaced the tank in my 90 Bronco and it was less than $100. I went with the steel tank as opposed to the plastic one though. The plastic ones are a bit more.......but no more than $120
IIRC there was a thread here that talked about what tank would be better for what type of environment......plastic vs. steel.........
BTW: The leak on my 90 was on the very bottom......and yes they are a bit prone to this.

Sorry, that's Canadian dollars... about $155 usd. And that's a price from a small parts store that usually has higher prices than other places. Plus, I've noticed that a lot of things are a little more expensive on our side of the border too.
