I just replaced the fuel pump last weekend and now the tank is leaking form the top. I crawled under the truck and determined that gas is coming out of the seal / grommet on the top of the tank adjacent to the pump. I think I damaged this piece when I removed the tube from the tank.
The Haynes manual calls it the "vapor tube emssions control valve"? I can't find this seal / grommet anywhere on line or around town. I may have to call the dealer tomorrow.
Have you tried RockAuto or partsguyed.com at y2kparts?
I tried these guys and any and all online parts suppliers and they list the valve but not the rubber grommet that the valve sits in.
I wrapped some tape around the grommet, re-installed the valve and went for a ride and I couldn't smell gas or see any leaks......for now. That bandage may buy a couple of days until I can get to the dealer.
The grommet has a part number on it so Ford must have it.
Thanks for the info. I'm having a similar challenge.
If I may ask - how did you get the plastic valve out without breaking it?
Thanks,
ax
It's seated like a PCV valve in a similar type of rubber grommet. It simply pulls out. The troubel with mine was the grommet was so deteriorated that when I pulled out the valve, the grommet ripped.
