Kick down cable

I have a 1987 bronco that I just bought. The previous owner had the transmission rebuilt. I believe the transmission is a C-6. The motor is a 302 EFI. After driving it home I noticed that the kickdown cable on the throtle body was disconnected. I tried to hook it up, but the cable will not pull out far enough to hook onto the throttle body. It sure won't move with the throttle. Where the cable hooks to on the transmission it does move when the cable is pulled, but very little. Any help would be great. Thanks, JON

i just had a similar problem, does the arm on the tranny move at all? is it the original tranny? will the cable even reach the kickdown?

i had to make my own kickdown using a bycicle cable. for some reason the movement on the carb kickdown was about 2 1/4 inches while the arm on the transmission only moved about an inch.

you may have to drill a new hole lower on the throttle body's kickdown so that it doesn't have as long to travel

i dunno if this at all applies, but i wished i knew it a few days ago

Not sure if its the original tranny. The arm moves on the tranny like you said abount an inch. I think that might be my problem, maybe it should move farther. The cable comes close to the throttle body hook, but is not long enough to clip onto it. Did your kick down after making a new cable?

there's probobly a stock cable you can buy at an auto parts store that fits, but my truck came with a very un flexable kickdown rod

the arm on the transmission I think is only supposed to move an inch, the rest has to do with where the throttle body is positioned

There are several different arms that attach to the transmission.
Each with a different configuration and travel.

It sounds as though you have the wrong one.

Here are the pictures of the linkage on the throttle body and the transmission.
