Mud Tires

hey fellow FORD F/E lovers. just a quick question on tires. i am looking for a 35x12.50x15 mud terrain to put on my '75. i have it narrowed down to the B F Goodrich mud terrain t/a k/m and the General grabber mud terrain. i like both. i have a budget of 750 dollars to buy the tires, have them mounted/balanced and installed onto my truck.so if anyone has anything to say about either tire or any suggestions for another brand. let me know.

The choice between those two should be easy, BFG. I think you can get a set of the new Goodyear MT/R's for around the same price, have you considered those?

The new BF's are the better tire. They are what I'd get if I needed new ones. You should have no problem getting those 35s on your budget, either. You will might get more responses with your tire question in the tires, wheels, & suspension forum.

actually i dont really know. i guess the price, but i can get a set of swampers mail orderd for about the same price i could get the BFG muds at sears with balancing and all that stuff. there is a 4x4 shop "BAD BOYZ" here that will mount and balance tires for 60 bucks for all 4 ill probably just go with the 38x12.5x15 swamper TSL swampers.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Dec-01 AT 01:26 AM (EST)]How do those 38's fit under your truck? I thought 35's were the most you could stuff under a 4" lift. With my 35's I only have an inch or two from hitting the front fender when turning.

well i had to bend the front of the wheel wells in on the front. the 16x38.5x15 swamper tsl tires only rub at full turn but i can still flex until one tire comes off the ground. unless you know what you are looking at you can hardly tell that i bent them in. of corse you have to remember that the tires i have on there now are almost bald so new 38s probably wont fit with out rubbing. if i get new 38s i will probably put a 2 inch body lift to clear them totaly.

Article in some off road i was reading at an airport has of all the current Mud terrians they rated the new X-terrains the highest, i havent seen them mounted on anything yet but they said something about how they just came out this year. If anyone has got them yet, how do they work?

ive seen those in magazines too i just dont want to be the guinny pig that trys them out first. they look pretty cool though. like they can tear some stuff up on the trail. i dont think they would match to a super swamper.

ah no i'm sure they wouldnt.... in mud... but there big hype was how it was an all together thing, the ride of a A/T the sand capabilities of a Baja and the mud grip of a Thornbird but like u said i aint gonna be the guine pig i've got a good half of a year before i'll need new rubber, i'll see if they are still in buisness then.

a buddy of mine says that they are like the yokahama geolanders in the mud. and acording to 4wheel off road june 2001 the geolanders rated last out of 9 mud/gumbo/swamper tires.

I love my General Grabber MT's. They're cheap, and they sure sling the crap.. I haven't punctured one yet and they ride great.. If not a bit more noisy than the last set of BFG MT's I heard.

I don't know if they are available in your part of the country, where ever that is, but I really like the BuckShot Mudders. Good in Mud and snow, not to loud on the road.
