Seemed a few months ago, a gal had the same problem, filled up and fuel gauge reads about 1/8th tank. Started, re-started in fact been driving for about 1/2 day christmas shopping still same thing. Any resolutions?
Same with my '03. I don't know if it's related, but it happened the first time in Alaska on a very cold day after a fill up. That was about 15k miles ago (current mileage is 56k). It has done it maybe twice more since then, eventually the indicater will get to the "full" mark.
Most the time when that happens the truck is left running when fueling. It takes a few cycles to get itself back to the right level. You could have a bad sending unit if it last longer than that. Did you check the fuses and do the rest of gauges work?
Just an FYI: It helps if you let us know (as 6.0 Rules did) what MY your truck is when you have issues.
As firesoutmatt stated it often is a result of fueling with the truck running or even just the key in the on position. However, some '05 MY trucks have an instrument cluster issue.
