What did you do to the Perkins to outpull a hopped up Cummins like that?
Sounds like you really scored on that engine. Where would one find one for a good price?
It's possible to buy a used Cummins 6bt from just about any wrecking yard for around $2000. It appears that the Perkins 1000 series is new enough that it might be hard to find one used and they probably cost a small fortune new or used.
I'd love to put one in my F-600 in front of an OD auto trans.

They have been around since the early 90s mine I bouhgt new in 96 .I found one in Indiana the sister to mine for 2700.00 they do have dry sleaves for rebuilding.can find them cheaper with the round pump on them. The 5"in stroke and the 3.93 bore is what gives so much tq.Idid alot changes from when I ran my buddy had stock Injectors and small adjustments to the injection pump stock timing. Now I have 330hp marine inj.Pump max out now.I have alot bigger turbo setup the other setup was way to small tomuch back pressure.Working on making the walnut dash for all new gauges& heater controls. My wife keeps asking me if I,m ever going to stop playing with that truck and leave it alone and just drive it.I just smile and walk away fast.
I apologize, it's a 3116 Cat not a 3156. GM's Top kick medium duty truck can have a 3116 Cat in it, a company I used to work for had a truck like this and it was terribly underpowered while towing a 580L Case backhoe. But in a fullsize truck I figure it would be especially the turbocharged 285hp one, what do you guys think, what about ease of fitability in to a '73 Ford F-250 4x4? What is the weight of the Cat compared to a Cummins and would i still have to update to Rockwell axles and a Rockwell transfer case to deal with the Cat or is the power output low enough to run 1 ton drivetrain? Any other info would be much much appreciated thanks.

Reason: I forgot some stuff
i have a chance to buy a '53 GMC military 6x6 and the old 6 cylinder is hard to find parts for and so is the transmission would a 3208 fit better under the hood of this machine with a industrial manual transmission? just curious on your opinion
I don't know if this is still in the plans, but my old man used one of these trucks for years. The drive train is not up to this kind of power. He used to break things with the six. (a 302 Six, 4"x4", 2bbl Mercury carb, 4 speed Hydramatic, 2 speed divider box, full time 6 wheel drive by means of some kind of overrunning clutch, so if you got slippage in the rear, the fronts kicked in...)
Anyway, on of the things he discovered was the ring and pinion set was the same parts as used in Chev/GMC one ton's in the '70s. Not very heavy duty.
These were rated to haul 2 1/2 tons for the military. He had about 18000lbs on it daily, and broke one of the axle housings at one time.
I could have picked the GMC up for $1200 and the only thing was a drain plug in the transmission fell out and the fluid all drained out driving up the hwy. and he had it towed home, he just wanted to get the money back for the tow bill.(It was a long way from home). I also had a chance to get a late 70's Kaiser military 6x6 that had a diesel, if it dosen't already have a 3208 would this be a truck to put the Cat in? Your right the GMC didn't have rockwell axles but the Kaiser does, is the drivetrain in the Kaiser a bit tougher then the GMC? What do you guys think would be a better project, a '73 Ford F-250 with a Cat 6 cyl. or a Military 6x6 with a 3208 Cat put in it? just curious.
