Boy were getting radical around here. Its just a work truck not as show truck. I personally like blue not a real bright blue just an average blue if thereis such a thing. I wish I could find atruck off that vintage. There very rare around here anymore. They were some tough trucks for sure as you an Thomsen have proved in all kinds off mud bogs an drags.
Ya, I talked to Thomsen about 2 weeks ago, we were both drinking Budweiser and it was noon I need to get this truck up an runnin' so we can pound on them this spring when the snow/ice melts, looks like he has some good wheeling spots down his way.
Ya you guys have some great spots up there. In my area there are several mud bogs an drags. Only one real close to me around my area. Get a 390 in to a F 250 vintage such as yours makes for a great mud bogger or mud drag truck. Same as a 460. Lots off torque down low. Hate to tell the Chebby guys but the 390s an 460s can usaully ot run those guys in most situations. Its been awhile since I have been to a mud bog or drag but reading this forum an you an Thomsen posting pics is giving me the bug. You guys put a lot off hardwork an hour in to your trucks shows how much you love that sport. Cant wait for the season to start.
Hey the truck is lookin good ramboss. I see you went with the black rockcrawler rims, nice. If it were me I would go black on black on black. Today was really nice around here and I had to take the mudbogger out and show my two sisters what it was all about. I ended up FINALLY breaking a rear d60 shaft while climing a hill with a 3 foot bank halfway up, I popped the frontend up at about 3/4 throttle and when the back hit the bank it snapped the driverside rear. Had enough momentum that i still made it up. Oh and btw I can only vaguely remember talking to you ramboss, lets just say I wasnt very coherent, It was a very long night the night before and an even longer morning playin dice!!!
I also vote for the cheap tractor paint. My personal favorite is rustoleum. Anyway, pick your favorite tractor company and spray away. I personally like Allis Chalmers. I think my next project will be their colors. Maybe slap an emblem off your favorite tractor on there as well
Well I finally got around to wrenching on the truck again today. The steering is officially hooked up and working, minus the ghey power assist. It is the push-pull type set-up.
I had to cut a 1.75" or so hole in the frame to get the box mounted, drilled 3 holes in the frame n bolted box up. Then, to get the steering linkage to work I had to remove the old steering shaft from the 2wd column. I then took a steering shaft from a '75 F250 and discovered that is was basically the same shaft. I had to cut about 1/2" off of the end of the thread to get my horn assembly to fit, other than that, it was a direct bolt in deal for the column shaft.
I discovered in the end that it doesn't turn very sharp, and turning 36" rubbers on a cement floor isn't easy either.
If anyone wants to see any pics I can post some up of the job.
Tomorrow, I will run to the parts store and buy a bunk of lengths of brake lines and get my new front lines bent and run, buy new U-joints as well, and drop off my rear shaft to get made. Truck will be driving soon!
