Panel truck body Interchange

Correct me please if I'm wrong, but aren't the panel truck bodies on F1s and F100s the same?

By panel truck bodies I mean, of course, from behind the front doors back.

Thanks,
Paul

1948-1952 Panel trucks shared the same structure from behind the front doors back. Matter of fact, the only difference was the front end sheet metal and the dashboard. 1948-1950 was all the same. In '51/'52, the front sheet metal and the dashboard were changed.

In 1953, the body was completely redesigned. Even the rear doors were different. That is also when Ford started badging their trucks with the F100 (and up) designations. 48-52 model years had the F1 and up badging.

51 Panelman,

I understand the difference between a F1 and F100, thanks.

I know, as AX said, that the rear doors are the same between them.

I was wondering if "the panel truck bodies on F1s and F100s" are the same.
I'm about 90% sure they are, from something I read years ago, but I was trying to verify it. I also recall in this article that the taillights and rear fender stampings were borrowed from I believe a '40 Ford.

Looking for that darn article,

Paul

PS: Some day I would really like to have a 51 or 52 F1 panel to go with my 55. I'll start looking for a F1 panel after I find that darn article!

40 Ford wouldn't make sense, the fenders were too teardrop and the tailights have nothing in common. It would make sense, given the production #s that Ford used the roof, quarter panels and rear doors for the F1's and F100s. Hey Panelman let's coordinate some pictures taken from the same place of yours and my panels and I'll superimpose them to see how close they are. I'd really like to know what the truth is.
I was told the rear doors are the same.

I got some pretty good pics of my 48 panel in my gallery if it helps any. Can also take some more pics if needed. I am kinda interested on this as well. The doors I can believe but the rest of the body I doubt, isn't the wheel base side to side narrower on an f1?

My 44 - 52 "Body Parts" Catalog, shows the 48 to 50 Side Panel replaced by the 51 to 52 Side Panel.
The side panel goes from the rear of the side door to the side of the rear door.

Try saying that three times.

the tail lights for the 48-56 panels came from the 41 ford passenger car.

verified thru wescotts catalog page g-9

bought a set from them last july, they were dennis carpenter (packaging) and the boxes were printed as 41 pass/48-56 panel tail light assy.

they seemed to be of quality materials

I have to agree with Panelman, the only thing on a 48-52 panel that will fit a 53-56 is the taillights. They were originally used on a 41 Ford coupem except the panels had plastic lenses instead of glass. Years ago, I put glass lenses in my 56 panel and was amazed at how many people caught that little detail.

The bodies are diffinately different between the "Bonus Built" "48-52s and the later model trucks. The rear doors are also different. They all shared the same door rataining hardware, tail lights and license plate brackets. It's very easy to see the bodies are different just by looking at the rear wheel well lips.

The rear doors on the later models have "FORD" stamped into them, along with addition lines, and the outer shape is wider and more squared.

Thanks Bob. From your pix it is obvious my source was wrong about the doors, maybe they meant the hardware, I just misinterpreted. My 56 came with glass "blue dot" lenses.
