Smile Ambient air sensor

The outdoor air temperature sensor on my 2000 Expedition started acting up recently. It would read accurately when cold but would start reading a higher temp as the engine heated up. The electronic temperature control will not work properly without this input. The dealer said it was a faulty Ambient air temperature sensor part number F3VY12A647A and cost $101.40 plus installation. A few hours on the internet came up with A NAPA part number TS4005 and a Standard Parts Corp. part number TX12 both can be found at your local parts store for under $20.00 and on line for around $13.00.
The sensor is mounted on the front of the radiator frame under the plastic shroud just to the right of the hood latch assembly. It's a simlpe plug in install.

Good tip. Thanks for sharing the information. What were the symptoms with your electronic temperature control, aside from incorrect reading?
