Be careful with fleet vehicles, GSA vehicles(government supply admin.) has a great maintenance schedule, oil change every 7,500 miles or yearly. I will never consider a fleet vehicle.

www.rockauto.com lists the 4.6 for just over 2k, not including core. Put it in yourself, and you are all set. An independant shop should not charge more than 20 hours for R&R?

You have to remember though, everything else on the truck is 250k miles too. Transmission? Suspension? It will all need help soon.

Well, the truck is now out of my uncle's shop. According to my folks, it has been given a clean bill of health, with the only thing needed was an oil change. Tranny shifts perfect, the fluid is clean, plenty of power, all equipment works (A/C, cruise, etc.) and no immediate areas of attention are required. The cold miss has apparently gone away on it's own, and the funky right turn signal operation has also cleared up - probably just dirty contacts from sitting. This truck was a Colorado DOT truck, and Colorado seems to take better care of their equipment.
