Best home audio system

Can anybody give me some info on a good home theater system in the under $ 2k range. There are too darn many to pick from. I don't know if the "system in a box" is right for me. I have the bose 3-2-1 and I am not impressed at all for the $1100 I paid last year. I'm not brand loyal if that helps. Thanks........

You'll probably get as many opinions as there are responses.

I'm also curious what's out there.

stealth1, what's your opinion on those Bose 3-2-1?

I see that you're not impressed with them.

I see them advertise on late night TV.

A buddy of mine has the 901 Series II, but I wasn't all too impressed with them.

My old pair of ESS Heil AMT1 speakers just plain old out performed the 901's in every aspect.

Even my current old Infinitys RSM (Reference Studio Monitors) out performed the Bose.

Before I saw the "under $2,000 range", I was going to suggest at least hearing a Bryston Amp and Thiel speakers, which vary greatly in cost. Some of the Thiels mount to walls and ceilings, very out of the way, and the sound is great.

I guess I should say the sound quality is a step above but the whole 3 speakers do the work of 5 or 6 is nonsense. I moved it to my bedroom, smaller room, and it sounded better. For the money I feel I could have done alot better by far. I guess I had higher expectations from bose. If your on a budget and have a small room I guess it would work. I was not impressed. I have read reviews on the 901's and was surprised that most people don't care for them at all. I thought thet was bose flagship speaker. I was stoked when I seen on their website you can get the 901's on a user friendly payment plan. I went and read the reviews and now think I'll be looking elsewhere again...I have the first edition of the 3-2-1, not the newer version they advertise now. Not sure if there is a difference, well there is in price..lol

Ever consider building your own speakers? You build the enclosures, and put the drivers and electronics in 'em. 'save you a pile if you can build boxes and solder.

My brother bought 2 Bryston amps and they were close to 10,000 each well out of my price range. I cant remember the name of the speakers he uses but lets just say it is unbelievable. You think you are at the concert.(this is only a stereo though he dont use it for movies)
Anyway I just went with 5 Bose 301 and for the money are fairly impressive. I hooked them into my 5 speaker Dennon reciever (also surround sound ). So I hear them when playing a movie , cd or even the radio.

I am kinda shocked at the news of the 901 I liked the sound of them in the showroom but I never had a pair though. But must admit it has been a while since I heard them.

That means stay away from
Future Shop
Best Buy
Circuit City

Big Box stores.

I suggest going to German Stereo Equipment.

dont know how much it was new, but right now ive got 2 techwood towers with a 15 a 2 and a buzzer tweeter in each, 2 jbl ? 12s running off a secondary amp, 2 sony bookshelf speakers with 6.25 in each with 2 tweaters, 2 aiwa sourounds, and a sony center, all on a techwood 5 channel amp with subpreouts, and a matching 5 disk dvd changer. trust me on this, i can rattle my neighbors windows with ease. id say get a good reciever with a good usable power range, and work from there.
