OK, here is the deal. I had my head rebuilt. I installed it following the Haynes manual. It said to torque the rocker arm bolts/nuts to 35 ft/lbs. When I did this and tried to start the truck it bent all the pushrods, cause of course nothing could move. I have worked on quite a few ford engines, but have never had this problem occur. Any ideas as to why it said that?
They are all the same length. What I did to fix it was of course put in all new pushrods, then tightened them down some. I started it up, and adjusted them until the engine was running smooth.
Checked it 2x that is what I torqued it to. I talked to my buddy who is an avid Ford man. To adjust the valves you bring #1 to TDC. Split the harmonic balancer into 3rds. Tighten #1 down until you cannot turn the pushrods with your finger. Turn the engine to the next mark and tighten the next one in firing order. Worked good, and runs great. Thanks
