Howdy,
I recently bought a 72 F-250 Camper Special. I was told that it has a 390. The sticker on the valve cover says engine family 360/390 then engine displacement 360 cu. Which is it? Would appreciate any insight.
Chris, The 360 is a detuned 390. A 390 engine with a 352 crank. It was introduced in the early stages of immisions control. The good part of your case is that you can rebuild your engine with a 390 crank and piston set, and have a 390 for real. :-)

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Hey welcome to FTE! You could already have a rebuilt 390 engine where they used all the old 360 tin on it. The stroke is what you need to find out. It has been discussed here many times so try a search on "dowel" in this conference or the FE. There will be lots of explanations on the procedure. Keep your fingers crossed!
