I found a truck to replace my recently stolen 77 F150. I found a 74 F250 4X4 360 4spd. Its very cheap because it doesnt run, I dont know whats wrong with it yet. I have a 72 F100 thats totaled but the 360 is still good. It could use a rebuild though. The bottom end is in good shape, but it could use new valves, guides, seals, rods, and probably a carb too. How much would that cost? I could probably do most of it myself. Just a little thinking since the truck is much less than I was looking for, I could spend a little on the engine. Just a thought.
Thanks
Aaron
I'm not sure where you are located but I ran into this price list on here awhile back when I was first contemplating rebuilding my 300. I just saved it as a reference, this guy is halfway across the country from me. It seems like it is pretty close to what my local machine shop charged me. Might give you some idea of what you might get into.
Aaron,
It sounds like you need a "top end rebuild." I used to get heads done for about $100 dollars a head. There probably a little more now, $115. Take the heads some place you can trust. Purchase a head gasket set for about $100. Do you have tools? Torque wrench? Are you doing the cam and lifters? If so, $125. TimingChain? $40.
It adds up quick.

When my oil pump went out on my 351 last month I ended up doing a top end rebuild in my garage. I spent around $800 total. That included a 3 angle valve head job, four new valves, 16 new guides and seals, new push rods, new oil pump and shaft, new carb, new gaskets, fuel pump, coil, wires, plugs. Plus I also had to replace the starter and selenoid. All in all I'm glad I done all that work. I get a lot of comments about how she runs and sounds now. Makes me feel good to know I done most of the work myself. Only thing I didn't do was the head work.
Please don't pull out in front of me! I can't afford to play "What's this?" with you or your car.
