Has anyone else noticed this: when car manufacturers show their car (or cars) in a TV commercial, why are they almost always SILVER? Mercedes, Saab, Hyundai, Chrysler, Audi, even Kia. Is it because this is the least-offensive color? You may not like red, or black, or yellow, but who despises silver?
I can't stand silver, probaly has something to due with have a 82 Sapporo in college that was silver that the clear coat was already gone when i got it in 87.
Other colors I can't stand on cars: red, but the worst for me is white- to me it says fleet/rental vehicle
Yeah I think silver is the most popular colour out there now isn't it? I love the way it looks. New Mercedes look pretty good in Silver. I notice the new truck commercials are red it seems though...hmm...
Probably more because it is both a netrual and contemporary color and appeals to the more affluent folks that tend to frequent the auto shows.
Color is a personality thing. Bright colors tend to be the type A personality folks (I think) and dark colors are the other end of the spectrum.
It's probably just playing on the psychological effects that various colors have on people.
Getting deep in here. I must be a confused person. I have 5 vehicles. I have a bright red SUV, a dark green car, a silver pickup, a white antique car and a black motorcycle.
It's one of the easier colors to film, no unwanted reflections from the dumpster sitting in the parking lot, less chance to show any flaws in the paint, and smudgy hand prints and dust are all hidden.
Try to take perfect pictures of a dark or black car, and see if what I said above holds true...
Our Silverado is pewter now that you mention it lol.
It amazes me that commercial with the black Mercedes and it's spotlessly cleaned and waxed.
I know red vehicles tend to raise insurance (it's a "sporty" colour). I believe yellow does for the same reason. Silver/pewter is one of the lower ones as far as I know.
I like silver or white because they're easy to keep clean, don't attract too much attention if they aren't. Red and black are hard to keep looking nice. Another thing, at least here--summers here can be hot, lots of sun, and white and silver don't soak it up quite so much, makes it little easier to keep the car cool.

After 20 years in this business, I can tell you that not one insurance agent has EVER asked me the color of the vehicle their client is purchasing. Red may cost a little more to repair (it's always been the most expensive pigment), but insurance companies do not adjust rates based on color. Just another automotive myth, I'm afraid.
For me, its yellow, i hate yellow. Doesnt matter what kind of car its on, to me thatsd be like painting a rainbow car with gay power on the side of. Even if someone was offering me a gt40 that was yellow for a cent, i wouldnt buy it.
Any other color doesnt bother me. silver is a neutral color...so i guess they use it. to not offend those of the yuppy decendy
To me, too many folks are driving Silver and/or Gray vehicles. I think Silver was over 25% for the 2005 model year. I'm partial to Bright Red and Black. I rarely see another Bright Red 4-door Explorer like mine around here without the sport colored grille (a lot of 2-door Sport models though). My Ram is also Bright Red and everyone knows it is me driving around.
I just like to be different than everyone else. My wife had a '96 Accord Sedan in Dark Green. I saw so many on the road, I got sick. Be bold!
