That is correct, 02FordFx4...the directions of an aftermarket tach would explain further.

I have put a 92, 93, 94,and 95 cluster in my 96. The tach worked perfectly in all the clusters. The 92/93 clusters have an F2 part number on the circuit board. They cause my engine light to come on I disable the charging system. The 94/95 have an F4 part number and caused my ABS light to come on. I just pulled the backlight for the ABS. Everything else seems fully functional. I can live with out the ABS as the truck never sees winter driving anyway.

This seems to be the way these thing work as far as interchange.

Wow, I can't believe you tried that many different clusters. I had the same thing with the ABS light. Finally found a 1996 with tach on ebay, problem solved.

The 96 clusters are a bit harder to find in my price range. I can get 92-95 tachs here at my local bone yards for 15-30 bucks. The ones i couldn't use I put on Ebay and doubled my investment.
