It means that they have more points (the person with the greater number of dots), but they haven't gone over the thresholds that Ray put up before.

E.g. Someone could be on 90 points, and another on 110 - both would have stated:
User has a spectacular aura about (now it would be: User is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE) - but the person on 110 points will have 2 boxes, and the person on 90 points would have 1.

The whole thing about the reputation points is that it is only as good as the users that use it, basically if everyone uses it for what it is intented for it would be a good means to reward users for the content of there posting, like for instance , the post had bad info/content and the users gave negitive constructive crititism then the person could use it as a way to better his postings,
but if it is given out for favors, funny jokes, ***** nilly reasons or in anger or to get even , then the rep system does not work and it means that those who do have legit/earned points will not recieve the credit due them.

So in other words give out rep points to those deserving(good & bad and neutral) of them and not just to give them out just because you can.

And remember if you get a bad one, Its just words......

O.K. I'm gonna ask on behalf of myself and any other noobs that don't quite get this yet...

How do you know when you get a rep point from a fellow FTE'er? I have 78 posts at this writing and one green dot. Who gave them to me? I guess the reason I'm asking is it would be nice to know that I helped someone figure out a problem, made them think or made them smile. There might even be the barest chance that I ticked someone off... naaahhh!

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't given any reps to anyone yet and I have met many on this site that deserve them. I know how to give them but, I guess I underestimated their importance. I promise I'll do better!

Any guidance would be apprecieated (a spell-checker wouldn't hurt either)LOL

Just click the CP icon on the left side of your page.
If someone has made a comment through the rep system,you will see it listed on the right when you open the CP.
Every gets 10 points at the start.

how many points does one need to go from one dot to two, two to three, three to four, etc. i notice on Ivanribic's dots, four are dark green and one is light green. what is that?

Well, that'll larn me.

Never paid my USER CP much mind, got it like I wanted it first off and left it alone.

And, there are some very nice comments in that particular area, some 5 months old I didn't respond with an appropriate thank you.

Lord have mercy on me! Mil1ion 31,530 posts! Now I feel like such a beginner

Most people probably do not know you can leave points. I actually forgot about it until someone left some for me. Then I had to search about how to do it. When I first put my mouse over the icon it said "show thread" so I never tried it out since I was already reading the thread.

In your user cp towards the bottom it will show in what thread and user that awarded them and any comments that were left, I believe that only the 5 most recent ones will show.
Green = positive
red= not so good
grey=neutral/no comment

A few of us tried to analyse exactly how the green boxes vs the charisma title worked, and as near as we could figure - the boxes are in fact rough point totals.

It is possible to have the same number of green blocks as someone else, and yet have a different statement (User is... Etc...).

And of course, it's COMPLETELY independent of numbers of posts. Just because you write an encyclopedia doesn't mean someone will be thrilled by it...
(He says, knowingly)

Since the blurbs for reputation have been revamped, I went up and down the list to see what the known ones were at this point. They are:

(?) is new, and has a neutral reputation at this point.
(?) as starting off with a positive reputation.
(?) is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
(?) has a good reputation on FTE.
(?) has a very good reputation on FTE.
(?) has a great reputation on FTE.

Kind of tame sounding compared to what they were before, no more "GLORIOUS BEACONS OF LIGHT" and so on.

Pity really, I was expecting Ivanribic to become the next POPE...

I wouldn't take it very seriously. Such gadgets on websites are often more in the nature of 'toys', and sometimes they don't work out like we expect.

I DO know two things about it. When either a positive or a negative vote is cast, the member not only knows about it, but also who voted it. And negative votes can very easily upset people.

That is one, the other point is this:

Before casting negative reputation at someone, think about it for at least an hour or two. Once it is done, you cannot undo it. It is often better to do nothing, than to do something you wish later that you had NOT done.
