i have a black lifted 2000 ranger that has all the windows limo tinted and i'm in chicago. i got busted twice, one $75 ticket and a warning! i've had them tinted for three years and they look good, they were done by a proffesional. don't do it yourself, you won't like it. the thing is my truck is black so it don't stand out so much but on a white vehicle, it'll stick out like a sore thumb!

Thanks for the tip. Here in Michigan, I looked up the regs on window tinting and you can have anything on the rear. I wasn't planning on doing the front anyway unless it was like 30% or something. I think my friend meant the cops will pull you over because tinted windows (especially limo tint) can cause suspicion and a cop wouldn't let 5 MPH over slide so much. Next step is one of those radar jammers that can't be sold in the states. HAHA.

I must be lucky I have a guy who comes to my house and his prices are awesome he has done half my neighborhood.I dont recommend do it yourself because you probably cant purchase the good tint. But I maybe wrong Ive done it clean clean windows and patience and plenty of razor blades.

As for doing it yourself...I don't know anyone who has tried, but I'm sure you've seen as many bad tinting jobs driving around as me over the years. Fair bet a bunch of those were DIY jobs gone wrong

I guess a non-professional could get a really high quality result, but in the best interest of your vehicle and your sanity I'd say get a tinting shop with a good reputation to do it.
I live in Maryland... looking to get my new 06 250 SC tinted. Could I bother you for this spot you know of? Thanks!!!

Tint is one of thoes things that you just want to pay somebody to do for you. I don't think it's worth the hassle. Pluse if the windows don't turn out you just take it back. The reason the tint turns purple is it's cheap tint. This also cuases the bubbles all over the place. I got 20% on the back three windows on my regular cab and 35% on the front doors. Looks light during the day, but at night it doesn't let you look inside.

I saw on the speed channel once the trick to good tinting is to remove the OEM tint with a heat gun then razor the rest of the residue off with some windex or ammonia then when your ready to lay down the tint of choise you need to spay the window lightly with windex lay down tint then get a good squeegie or credit card and squeeze all the bubbles outward you wanna start in the middle and push outward and it should come out pretty nice actually thinkin of doin my tint over this weekend Ill tell you how it came out when complete

I have never heard anybody use windex to do tint. all the tinters I have watched use a mix of water and baby soap. The key is to wash the window like two or three times and try not blow alot of dust around getting in and out of the truck. I have also never seen anybody take the factory tint out, that would be a lot of work. Well let us know how you made out trying it yourself.

I live in jackson, MI, and I have a friend who got his ZX2 done rear and rear side with 2%. He took it to some mexicans (no offense) and they did if for 100 and change. I know it was less than 200 anyway. Friend Kyle took his civic to the "professional shop" and they left a line in his back window. he paid a lot more too.

If I ever get to talking about it again, I'll ask him where he got it done. He said the only words he could understand were 145 and dollar and we have done in 46 minutes, you come back. That's all he needed to know I guess. Good luck
