Hi everyone I have a 86 F150 302efi AOD tranny, my problem is after the engine warms up when I put it in drive it idles high drives fine but at a stop you still could here the engine idle high. And when I put it into reverse it will jerk once in that gear, I would have to put it in netrual first let the engine idle down then put it in gear. And last after driving several mile or so it shut off in park I would have to keep my foot on the gas for it not too. So for what I've done thinking vaccum I sprayed the entire engine with soap and water looking any air leaks (twice) none found. Could someone please give me some cheap ideas before it may have to go to a shop. I also have a small code reader the last time I pulled a code it read clear.
Hi guys, I have may have fix the problem. Premit? I don't know. What I did was pulled the battery cables ( both to clean) to shuting down the system pulled the wire off the EGR sensor after a few seconds I reconnected the cables turned the switch on and off twice, connected my code reader the only code came was the a problem with the EGR, cleared the code reader reconnected the EGR and ran another code the reading was all clear. Started the truck idle to operating temp. drove around after 15 min I put it in park the high idle was gone the same in reverse and it didn't shut off. Again I thank thoughs who responded.

Sometimes you have to disconnect the battery for a little while to reset the little computerman... The system tries to compensate for the errors it has stored, sometimes even if the problem is already gone.
