When did the first seat belts with shoulder harness appear? Were they available as an option before they became mandated? My '76 F250 doesn't have one, but I spotted one that does.
[font color=red size=2]I'm not sure about '77 but I know that the '78 Ford trucks had them standard from the factory. I would like to put some into my '73. Does anyone know what is involved in swapping some in? Can it even be done? Does the cab have to be reinforced behind the sheetmetal?
My 68 F250 doesn't have shoulder belts, but the tapped holes to mount the shoulder bracket are there. I just haven't gotten around to getting a shoulder belt and putting it in.
The guy at the local Ford truck parts place told me if I didn't have a hole on the upper part of the cab the later model seat belts wouldn't work and that I would have to go with aftermarket. I have a 73 F250. So before I repaint I plan on welding some reinforcement on it and use aftermarket.
All,
You know, technically those factory belts are lame. If I was to really want to make my truck safe, I would bend a bar inside the cab and run 5 point Simpson belt system. Hey, I could even hang my gun rack off the roll bar!
Yee Haw!
