I know a 352 from a 351 or 302 ,360 and 390.The mechanic that I bought the truck from installed a 352 in this 1977 ford truck.I was wondering if the engine was good and solid,because I never owned one before.But to you that said I bet a breakfast by the lake,he doesn't have a 352....well you lost so buy your friend breakfast.

Yes the 352 is a good solid engine just like all the rest of the fe seies.Like most other motors,if you take care of it well it will last forever.I think the reason there was some confusion on your motor with the others on the panel is that most people will see "352" stamped on the block and assume that is what it is.All 390s and 360s I've seen have this stamped on the block because they all use the same block.If you can tell a 352,360,390 or 428(along with a bunch of industrial motors) apart from one another then you know something most of us don't.I've even bought rebuildable motors from the salvage yard that had 390 on the valve cover sticker only to find out they were 360s.Do you or anyone else know of a way of telling the fe series motors apart from one another?I'd really be happy if someone would share this info. if they have it.

Derek, the 352s and 360s have a round notch in the crank flange. The 390s have a square notch in the crank flange. The 410 and 428 also have a square notch out of the crank flange, but they have extra weights on the flywheel and the balancer. If you look, and you know what to look for, you can tell. DF
