O.K., I've read a lot on this forum about swapping in a 460. I will be swapping in my 460 into my 79 F250 Supercab 4x4 (with stock 400 & C6) next week.
I have the L&L motor mounts, rear sump oil pan (and pickup tube, stud, and dipstick), exhaust manifolds from a 460 E-series van, the 4 core HD radiator, the correct torque converter, and the tranny is fine.
I am taking the 460 out of a 78 F150 2 wheel drive with a C6. (it was a transplant...)
My final question is: will the low mount alternator and stock power steering pump with stock mounting bracket fit into my 78 F250 4x4 without modification?
Altenator should be fine. The power steering might be tight but will fit. I wore holes in two pressure lines then changed the mount. On my driverside head I had two threaded holes. One low (original location of pump bracket) and one high. I was able to relocate to the higher one by extending the hole in the bracket and using a washer under the nut and on the back side of the bracket. Also you must weld a piece of flat stock onto the bracket to extend to the lower waterpump mount. This only took about an hour to complete and now I have plenty of room.
If your not the fabricator type L&L now makes a kit to relocate the powersteering pump. I've never seen one in use but usually L&L is right on with there products.
