I am looking to replace the remote oil filter asy on my 98 Expy w/ 175K. The crimps on all ends are starting to leak, although no puddles on the driveway yet. I have been putting it off but now is the time to replace. Has anyone succesfully replaced the Ford OEM remote oil filter asy with an aftermarket? The dealer wants $185 for the replacment. Looked at the Summit and PermaCool but not sure if it will bolt up to the block. I also thought about pulling the old one off and taking it to a hydraulic hose shop to see if they could just replace the hoses. My concern is when they remove the original "crimp" does that destroy the aluminim tubes that it crimps too? Any insight?
Has anybody used the permacool or similar aftermarket remote filter on there 4.6L Romeo engine? It appears the side of the block is cast differently and not sure if permacool adapter will work.
On the 5.4L, how difficult is it to put the aftermarket relocation kit on? I have a factory relocation setup, but would prefer to keep the original sender if possible. My concern is that I'd like to avoid dropping the front axle if I don't have to.
