freeze blocks

I have a 1976 F-250 "Factory Hi-Boy" with a 390 installed to replace the original 350. The other day I was coming home with a full load of tools but could not resist the urge to get into a little race with Chevy off a stoplight. When I got home I was leaking radiator fluid out of one of the freeze blocks at a steady drip. The next morning I filled the radiator, drove to work, and no leak! Two days later the radiator is still full. What's up with that?:- 1976 F-250 Hi-Boy 390, AT, Hedman, Holley 650, Edelbrock, MSD Dist and ignition, all else original (2nd owner).

Is it possible that due to the "race" that your engine developed excessive heat that it needed to get rid of and the pressure in the system exceeded the pressure of your radiator cap and vented out the bypass on the side of filler neck on the top of the radiator---and maybe you thought that the fluid was coming from a freeze plug---BTW---do you have an overflow container that your cooling system can vent into when your motor is hot and you stop the engine----I believe it will also pull that fluid back into the system when necessary!!!fd

I do have an overflow container setup and the radiator itself is spankin' new. Since the "leak", however, my temp guage shows a little past middle after running a bit, whereas before it usually ran a little cooler. Especially in the middle of winter!

A stuck 5 dollar thermostat can ruin a new 3,000 motor fairly quickly----or maybe the freeze plugs simply didn't hold or were not installed correctly in the first place!!fd

-If a freeze plug was leaking it would most likely leak constantly. I'd check hoses etc. before condeming the freeze plugs.
(By the way, I just Gotta ask: Did you win?)

I had him beat until I noticed the city bus in my lane letting off some kindly old retirees (all former Ford owners I am sure). So I hit the brakes, and caught him at the next light. But that's another story... Anyhoo.. I think my problem is with the oil pan, mine is pretty deep(8") and the former owner told me the baffle(?) in the bottom was broken and that this might prevent oil from getting up in the block at a high load (like a drag race). Does this make sense to anybody and where can I get the right oil pan?
