Putting the frontend back on my 1949 ford f-1 i need to see some pictures of the fender were it meets the front of the cab and running board and were thr front of the hood meets the upper grill panel . I'm haveing some problems with the front end fitting right.
Pro49ford, Don't feel bad. It took me and my dad a weekend to get mine lined back up and on the truck. The hardest part I had was getting the grille in and lined up. I should have took some pics of mine but I didn't I was to upset at the time. On the older trucks and cars there was no quality control I quess. Hope someone can help you out b/c thats not a very fun job.
That appears to be a composite picture. Some COE pieces, some conventional and some large truck pieces. All are similar, but you might find you don't have all the items in the pict.
Try assembling the fenders, upper and lower; the inner fenders; the grill and upper/lower valances all as one unit. Leave bolts loose so it can 'settle' where it needs to go. With a helper, lift it in place and bolt it to the radiator support - this is probably the hardest part. Don't forget your sponge rubber cowl gasket.
The running board connection should be self evident at this point. As well as the gravel shields. Bolt to the firewall/cowl and the frame. Tighten everything down. That's about it - fairly simple.
You did not indicate if your were doing a fitup or final (as in final paint). I would not even consider a final paint assembly alone and I do just about everything alone. When I took mine apart, I removed in the hood first, then the running boards, and then the front fenders (upper and lower together). Right now my radiator, core support, inner fenders and grill are all still on the truck. I did not completely blow it apart since it takes more storage room apart. For my fitup when the time comes, I plan the order to be: core support-inner fenders-grill-fenders-running boards. With helpers, I would assemble the whole nose loose and then mate it to the chassis and cab.
I do anticipate a lot of fitting time and am thinking that I may do a series of smallest drill size mating holes ( i.e. match marks) once I am happy with the fitup that I can return to once in final paint.
when i put the new firewall in i must cut the old bracks off for the front fender and the running boards are custom made and look to be to long . I got the front end on and looks close . i need a mesument were the front fender meets the front off the cab.Like were thefar bottom of the door gap is to the fender .thanks for any help.
Pro49,
When doing a trial fit of my front clip not too long ago I found small problem. The cabs are rubber mounted, the front clip attaches solid to the core support which is spring mounted but the inner fenders are hard bolted to the frame.....makes for a bad day.
At the rear of each inner fender there is a small tab that fits over a stud on the frame. Most of the inner fenders I've seen are stress cracked like crazy around these tabs or the tabs are missing. I am going to eliminate teh tabs from my inner fenders and bolt the inner fenders to the cab mount flange so that the whole front clip assy can "float" with the cab.
My truck is not in a final assy stage so any measurement off of my truck right now wouldn't help you at all....sorry
