I was going to list this in the electrical forum, but thought I'd start here first. I have an '88 F450 7.3 and wanted to read the codes, but I cannot find the data port. I have looked everywhere! I was told it was under the hood on the passengers side-no luck! Anyone got a clue?
Test connectors should be in engine bay on the drivers side near the hood hinge, there should be a six pin and a single pin connector. Have you tried disconnecting the batteries for 10 minutes.
Hmm, unless you have an overdrive automatic I wouldn't expect to see any kind of computer on that truck. But if it really has an orange check engine light... Do what PLC says.
Fill in your location and signature with info on your truck. It helps us all know where we're talking to and answers questions about your truck. Like if you were from western WA I could hook a scanner up on your rig.
I do believe the only way you could have a computer controlled anything is if someone added an e 40 D trans to the truck .. possibly one of the first ones to have it and your state titles it as 88 and not 89.
I think there are only 2 things that will turn on the engine light, no oil pressure less then 7 psi and engine over heat at 244 deg. do you still have the factory oil pressure sender hooked up
So is this the red 'engine' light or an orange 'check engine' light? I'm kinda thinking the first one. You might try unplugging the overheat sender on the front lower corner of the driver's side head. Just one wire and it pulls off. Other than that you'll have to look way in the back for the oil pressure switch. It's back behind the intake manifold. I wouldn't suspect it unless your oil pressure is acting up too.
