Manifold Leak
Hey I have a severe manifold leak on my 88 F-150 300 4 speed will this cause my engine light to come on and off constantly. When the check engine light is on it misses like crazy and it only comes on when I let off of the gas. I figured it was caused by all the raw O2 going into the manifold. Can I fix the rear manifold and remove the cat and just run a O2 senser in the new pipes. When the truck is sitting and running the light does not come on.

If this is an exhaust manifold, then the leak shouldn't cause any performance problems. I would pull your codes and go from there. Fixing the manifold leak is a good idea, but probably won't fix your problem.
Reason being, there is positive pressure inside the manifold. Exhaust is going to leak out and air will not get sucked in.

I'm going to check the codes this weekend. Your exhaust can suck air when you let off of the gas that's what causes the popping noise when you coast down a hill or something. The raw O2 ignites any left over gas from the heat of the manifold and pipe causing a small explosion henceforth the popping noise in your pipe. That's what a exhaust shop said when they fixed the exhaust on my 77 Tran Am when the header started leaking.
