Sorry I'm late on this one! But I used to work at a Ford dealership. One day we had the "Blue Ovals" (big shots) come in. and I asked the question we all want to know. "Why did Ford stop using the 4.9?" Well There answer came pretty simple. "They never need repair, TO GOOD OF AN ENGINE". I guess the statement its bullet proof is true! And the "Blue Ovals" know it! I guess now a days "coperrate america" wants to give us lower quality products in order for them to make money. They dont care about giving a "quality" product that'll last for ever. But before I left rumor has it that they "might" bring the 4.9 back. "IF" they do I'd love to see the 4.9 with todays tech. I mean the engine is a beast! Here in WI we dont call it the stump puller for nothing. (guilty!) just imagine what this engine could do with todays advances!
Excuse me but, All U.S. Manufacturers, No Matter the Product, Have the Same Attitude, No Just Ford!
So does this mean You Are going to Stop Buying ANY American Manufactured Product?!. I Doubt It.

Thats one of the reasons why many people have less money and those landfills keep on getting bigger and bigger. Love those plastic parts......so don't get into an accident! Ya smart for the manufacturer, you think the buyer will be happier in the longrun? Vehicles are more complicated now, more gadgets and they don't last as long as they used to. I think its pathetic that you hear about someone havent to spend a fortune on their truck after 4 or 5 years because a grasshopper hit the front end and they have to spend a fortune to replace it or that buddy tries to replace his sparkplugs and one broke......Col Flashman, if only everyone had a truck like yours!

When it comes to new vehicles, you betchya.
I know it just isn't Ford, but it seems that every mechanic, friend, and parts counter guy I talk to, says that Ford is the worst of them all... True or not, that's the rep that Ford has around here for anything built after 1995....
I might reconsider, buying something new if they ever come out with a inline as durable as the 4.9.
Until then, why buy something new, when my 1981 F-150, 4.9 is more reliable than the new trucks, cars are?
Don't get me wrong, I do like Fords.... Easier to work on than the rest... Have you tried to work on a newer toyota? My wife's 1997 taurus is a breeze by comparison. Saying this as the car is at the mechanic for axle replacement.... :P
They might have less rust in 25 years but that woudn't matter in the scrapyard. Be a good deal for plastics recyling mabey some of those new vehicles will be coke bottles in 25 years. I think Ford made some very nice improvements in theie new 04 models and up. Looks like a 300 would fit in there too. Id also like to say that i think Ford will win the truck race because Toyota and all those guys are gonna lose out. See the New 2007 Toyota Tundra? It looks like crap.

Yes i agree totally. Ford is also looking at saving money in production as well, and they may have saved alot of money if they built modular engines like the 4.6, 5.4 and the 6.8 v10. The family of inline 6's slowly began to dissapear, but its making a good comback. I believe in Australia, the 4L strait 6 is doing very well in the falcon, and and really putting Ford Australia on the move. The ranger is starting to age in its design, trucks are a little bigger now, and a new family of modular 4, 5, 6 cylinders would really compete with the other guys right now. They could have a pair of 3 litreish 4 cylinders , mabey a 5 and a 6 With todays technolog it would be no problem creating a high output 250+ horespower and 400ft/ibs of torque. Funny how ford desided to make the 6.0 diesel, why didn't they go make a big six? Everyone likes racecars and trucks that someone who needs a truck doesn't need a car for a little speed and luxury.
