Starting problem...usual, but different
trying to find the source of; where that wire originates and where it's power comes
from, since I don't have the r/lb wire exiting the ign. switch. I've traced it back to
the side of the tranny, where it goes into the 3 wire switch. I haven't been under it
to check the nuetral safety switch wires yet. I got a new switch for it, just in case,
and hopefully, I can get to work on it in the next few days. If it is in fact the switch,
I don't know what I'll do...say a thankful prayer or cuss and kick the tires!
switch! There was a crack about a 1/4" deep on the wiring entrance side of the
connector itself! Boy, oh boy. I think I'll have it bronzed and mount it on my wall, after
alll the wire chasing I did! Oddly enough, that's the 2nd short I've found on this truck
inside a connector (the 1st being on the stop-light switch). I also found out that I
was sold a non-overdrive column, after re-attaching the trans shift cable. It wouldn't
go into park or 1st completely, so I changed out the shift lever panel on the side of
the column, and now it works like a champ again! A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all
who gave me some insights, especially 87 XLT and Ken 00. Without ya'll, I'd still be
banging my head and taking lots o' tylenol!
One really good thing about all of this, is that you now have the EVTM, so your're ready to go when you have your next electrical problem.
Hopefully your next problem will be a lot easier to figure out than this one was.
Congrats on the fix.
