Well guys I am looking to get an alarm on my 98 f-150.Can yall tell me which ones are good and which ones to watch out for.I am basically looking for one that if will chirp or go off if you bump it hard enough.I have seen some that you have to actually open the door to set it off.I do not mind paying for a good one. Thanks for all of your help.
Look for the ones made by DEI (ie. Viper and Python). The most basic alarm systems made by DEI all have adjustable 2-stage shock sensor, can be tie into door latch sensors, keyless entry, and more. I had the Viper basic alarm system installed on my last car (cost $200 installed 6 years ago). Now I have the Viper 2-way alarm with remote start installed on my current truck (cost $500 installed 1 year ago). No problem so far.
Get the one that fits your budget and needs. You should go to your local car stereo stores and car windows tinting stores. They should have alarm installer. Also, ask around and see where other people got their alarm installed and how they like it.
There are also alarms that you have to punch in a code in order to get the thing to start, then there's one's with cameras in them that send the picture of the purpetrator to your remote (since some are now LCD) up to 5 miles away.
Some decent alarms www.autoloc.com. The directions are very good and the harnesses are color coded and the relays standard iso that are easily replaced on the alarm I bought.
Mine comes with 2 remotes, one is LCD, it comes with the keypad but I don't think I want it right now. It also has start function and when someone gets close to my truck it'll roll up the windows if they're down. I can roll up or down the windows from my keyfob. And mine is compatible with the hidden camera that sends the persons picture to my LCD remote, but I'd have to buy that seperately (don't want it really).
