My son is getting ready to pull hi clutch. The engine was done within the last 3000 miles and the flywheel was resurfaced at the time by a reputable shop. He also installed a new press plate disc and to bearing. Ever since it went back together it has chattered, and it really is annoying to drive. Any suspects here?

1. got those greasy fingers on that nice shiny flywheel or pressure plate. It's always a good idea to wash hands before handling them and to clean both surfaces with laquer thinner or alcohol before installing;
2. had the flywheel turned instead of ground. Turning can leave it bumpy;
3. failed to tighten the pressure plate bolts evenly and torque them properly (12 to 20 ft. lbs);
4. didn't use a clutch aligning tool and failed to align the clutch properly;
5. was unlucky and got stuck with a defective pressure plate.
That's about all I can think of. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Clutch and pressure plates are "crap" at best these days like the hub loose on the disk. Linkage for a long arm that is loose in the basket as under rotational torque, arms loose after the basket is tight to the flywheel. Loose or worn pilot bushing, soft or broken motor and trans mounts, trans and motor not concentric and the favorite, loose, worn U joints and rearend. Did they grind thru not over the hard spots? After installing the flywheel did you check the flywheel face for wobble, worn fork and loose fork pivot plate? Any antifreeze leak into the clutch will make a chatter monster instantly.

I guess I got lucky, I used the orginal flywheel, cleaned it before installing, used orgnial pressure plate and throwout bearing, I did however buy a new clutch disc, as the old one was worn out. Clutch works like a charm, would have bought new everything but insufficent funds did not allow that. The pressure plate is in good shape though. Also, I only adjusted the clutch once, when I installed the engine. No problems, and Im happy. You know the saying, don't fix something that doeseant need to be fixed.
