Hey all....
I'm wanting to get a GPS unit but I don't want one that replaces my receiver... plus I'm on a budget....
So..
What's the best GPS unit out there for $1000? I'll probably get a docking station or something to mount it in my F150......
Any pics appreciated...
thanks
I got a program to run on my laptop. It came with a GPS antenna that you plug into you laptop. Found it at Best Buy, I think it is called Street & Trips. Cost $125.00 and works really well. Circuit City should also carry them. I had a problem paying that much money for a GPS and I didn't like the small screens on them.
I really wished stereo lcd units would accept gamin stuff. I have a laptop with the garmin software on it and just have to plug my handheld onto it and a cursor will apear on the laptop giving you a 12" screen. Love it. I also love my garmin handheld but as you said the screen is so small.
Here's what I did. I was operating without a cell phone contract when I decided that I wanted a GPS unit for my car. I ended up purchasing a Treo 650, after contract etc it was about $200. I then bought the Tom Tom GPS unit for the Treo 650 which came with the GPS receiver as well as the Arkon vehicle mount for $250. So, for $450, I ended up with an unbelievable GPS unit that not only works in my car, but I can clip the GPS receiver to my belt (came with a holster) and walk around Chicago following the voice commands on my phone. The GPS receiver is Bluetooth enabled as is the phone so it's a completely wireless setup. I love mine and cannot imagine using anything else!
The other perk of this setup is that the Treo 650 is nothing short of a phenom phone system. I surf the internet faster on it then I can at home. I have had this setup since June and it's been perfect.
