Question?? What is Green fuel?? Right after Katrina every time I filled up I was getting bright green fuel, now it is back to clear.
Green fuel is marine diesel. Non-dyed diesel is the stuff we pump into our trucks normally. The dye indicates that the road taxes normally assessed on diesel fuel were not assessed on that dyed diesel. The presence of ANY dyed product in a road vehicle means a violation and a hefty fine.
Red dye = Off road and farm diesel
Green dye = Marine diesel (boats and ships)

Hate to disagree with you but they have been delivering green fuel to most fuel stations in Michigan that I buy fuel from. Both Green and clear is used in Michigan for telling the tax man that the tax is paid. Red= no tax paid
Green diesel fuel is what they sell at many of the marinas here to indicate tax exempt fuel, so says the fuel guy at the dock. Some also sell red, according to some marine diesel users I asked in another forum. In doing research I see that Canada dyes its high sulfur ROAD diesel green. Low sulfur road diesel is clear. Michigan being near the Canadian border, perhaps that could account for the green fuel?
For at least 15 years. They are considering the fuel tax paid in either green or clear, I've picked up both with the green being the most prevelant at truck stops. My fuel supplier for the farm delivers red for the farm equip and clear or green for the on road tank.

I gotta say, I know some one who has been running it for years with no problems, but on the other hand there are a lot of laws you can break and get away with in this country , not paying your tax's is not one of them !, the tax man will get paid. here in Arizona the red fuel is only 30-40 cent cheaper...not cheap enough to risk it .

Reason: more info
No wonder it handles like the Titanic, I am using Marine Diesel
I think the GREEN fuel, as the article I site for Canada, shows that it is high sulfur fuel. CLEAR diesel in Canada is low sulfur. You guys up north getting the regular instead of the low sulfur variety may be getting GREEN because of the refinery selling cross-border.
High sulfur fuel is what they are selling for the marine diesels, those engines don't take too kindly to the low sulfur stuff. The marina guy did steer me wrong on the color, though. RED is the normal color for marine, too. They were using GREEN right after the storms as that was all they could get. They had to sell dyed fuel for the tax exemption to commercial fishermen, most of the states down here state ANY dyed fuel will get you cited if you put it in a registered vehicle.
my dads used it for over 15+ yrs. never gotten caught. you save sooo much money its pathetic..its a 500$ fine for every gallon you have in the truck i believe. but i dont think it matters if he uses it because its considered farm.idk
We have the clear diesel here in California. My fire engine takes the red stuf though!
Red stuff = tax exempt. Since the fire truck is probably owned and operated by a government agency, they are exempt from federal fuel tax, according to the IRS.
During the storm cleanup, we ran red diesel in our entire fleet with no ill effects. My truck went for 7000 miles by itself with no negative effects so far.
