Wow, here's a good reason to disconnect computer control of the glow plugs and wire in a momentary switch. It will dramatically reduce the load on the electrical system. It's very easily done.
You'll notice a lot more pale colored smoke with the engine cold, but that's normal for a cold diesel engine. Really the only function of the glow plugs is to get the engine running.
I'll start my truck after holding the switch for only 3 to 5 seconds on a freezing morning.
I was wondering what that was. I noticed more on the dash lights but since it never posed a problem I didnt worry about it. Just like sometimes when I turn the lights on, there is about a 2 second delay before the dash lights come one. It is weird, but not a problem so I can live with it. Can anyone here running dual alternators confirm that this still happens? I would think not with 2 alts.
