To my knowlege nobody here has done it yet. I looked into it a while back and Pro did some research too. The conclusion we came too us that for big tires with a fair amount of abuse you'd need the axles from the U1300 (strength equivilant to a 2.5 ton Rocky) or at the very least a 406 (similar in strength to a 1 ton). These are EXPENSIVE axles but the real concern we had was that if something breaks the replacement parts are very hard to get a hold of and very expensive. That pretty much ended my pursuit of Mog axles. I'd still use them if a pair fell into my lap but otherwise the couple inches of ground clearance you'll gain just isn't worth the expense.
FWIW the 404 axles really don't belong under a fullsize truck that's actually wheeled hard. They'd be great for a buggy or a gutted Ranger/BII. But again they are expensive to buy and to maintain.
also...you need some sort of axle wrap device if you retain leaf springs...the portal boxes give the axle alot mroe leverage on the leaf springs, therefore more axle wrap
I still say Pirate is one of the best 4x4 resources ANYWHERE. If you use the search you can find out anything you could possibly want to know. If it's not posted you can ask questions and you will typically get good help IF your question has not been answered already and you were just too lazy to search or if you have a moronic question. People always say "There's no such thing as a stupid question." Well that's BS, there's plenty of them. The guys on Pirate are helpful, just don't ask them about dubs or tow packages in general 4x4. Search in gen 4x4 for a thread titled "Unimog (MOG) and Volvo portal axles". Tons of great info there. Mogs are the shizzle but until we have more vehicles in this country that use them the parts will never be plentiful enough or cheap enough.
There is a guy in British Columbia that runs a business catering to people that want to swap 'mog axles onto their trucks. He has a full size Blazer with 404 'Mog axles. I can't remember the link, but if I come across it I'll post it.

Basicly if I'm going to go through the trouble I might as well go with D60/70 or Rockwells seeing as you said the 406 and U1300 are coprable in strength.
If i were to go with portal';s i'd serious look into the 9" 3rd member swap that can be done, that way at least the 3rd member parts would be relativelty cheap to replace
