Completed 460 swap:
Everything went as I read in all the posts except for the PS & Alternator brackets. I was not able to find a donor 460 van for the brackets, so I used the PS/AC bracket off of a early ‘70s LTD. It's the big honkin' cast piece with the plate on the front. I had to rotate the entire bracket assembly up a little so the AC adjuster part of the front plate would clear my PS gear.
The low mount alternator interfered with my crossmember. I've heard of others cutting out part of the crossmember to allow room for the alternator, but then it would be a bear to change/adjust the belt. So I moved the alternator up on the head as far as possible and only had to fabricate one bracket. I used the front pulley groove for my Alternator.
If anyone else is thinking about a swap (their first time...) in a '78 or '79 Bronco or 4x4 Truck and if you need any help with the brackets, email me as I can explain how I got it all to bolt up and send pictures if you need them....
Ryan.
