I have a 1999 F-250 7.3L diesel with a 9" lift and 39" Mickey Thompsons. I just got a new K&N Air Filter and I was wondering what size exhaust to get? I was going to go with a 4" because my truck is pretty much stock except for what I just listed, so I don't have all the horse power in the world but my buddy said it would still be better to go with the 5". Can anybody tell me what I should be looking for???
Typically a 4" is all u need for most applications. Helps keep down egt's
and sounds nice. Optimum torque size for your mods and good to use with any chip.I believe dyno results are better for 4" systems in most cases. You'll hear your turbo whistle more depending on the setup.
MBRP makes some nice 4" systems. www.blackclouddiesel.com
mention your a FTE member for an additional 3%off.
with a stock truck, I have heard many feel that they have lost a little low end power going to a 4 inch DP, so you may consider getting a chip or tuner as well. will certainly help turn those larger tires easier.

Need? Since when does 'need' have anything to do with it? Let's face it, for must of us, a stock system with a BTM would fulfill our 'needs'.
Why do I have a 5"? Not because it runs better. Not because it dynos better. But because it is a gorgeous example of wretched excess. I love the sound, I love the looks, and I wouldn't trade it for a 4" system - just as the guys with stacks or duals wouldnt trade them.
Well, I went ahead and ordered a 4" MBRP XP Series T-409 SS exhaust. The price was right and it looks sweet! Thank you for the advice. I might have to bother you guys again in the near future for other mods.
You'll love it! I know that a few other things I've done to my truck were more valuable to the well-being of the truck than the exhaust, but the exhaust is what I have enjoyed the most!

Sure burst the bubble, I thought the world revolved around me and my trucks "needs"
Alright, I have another question! I have noticed over the past two weeks that when it is cold outside and my engine is still not comepletely warmed up the engine makes a weird noise, almost like a vacuum leak or something. I am not sure but it bog's the engine down when it happens. Once the engine totally warms up it goes away. Can anybody tell me what is wrong with my engine?
Nothing wrong with the engine...it is the exhaust back-pressure valve that kicks in to accelerate the heating up of that big hunk of steel . You can disconnect it if you want..just do a search for EBPV.
