Judging on where you live, you should leave it connected. If you let the truck sit and idle long, it'll loose a lot of the heat. With the weather we've been having here in pa, my baby wouldnt even get warm without it.
beware of the K&N...the turbo sucks so hard, that it pulls the oil off the filter and with that oil comes dirt. I learned the hard way. When I redid my intake system you could see where there was no oil and the intake tube was FILTHY! You can do the "Kwik" mod founded by Mr. Kwikkordead. It is a HUGE paper element filter. Do a search for 6637 Mod. Also CCV mod (crankcase ventilation). Click on my name and go to my gallery...pics there to see what I am talking about.
I did notice that the K&N filter was pretty oily when I put it on. What kind of filter do you suggest I replace it with? Oh, and I could not really see the picture in your gallery.
99F-250lova - what you can't see in this picture is how BIG the filter is, and how much surface area it has. The large surface area contributes to low pressure per unit area, very good flow, and very good filtration.
The picture is deceptive. Look at the size of the filter compared to the battery - then look at your own battery and try to imagine just how big that filter really is.
Also, since the stock box has been eliminated, so has the source of common leakage that allows dust and dirt to destroy the turbo compressor blades - oh, and the engine, too.

go to the gallery, click on the mod gallery, and scroll down on that page....there should be 5 pictures or so with explainations of what I did. Click on the picture and it brings it up to a full page.
you can get that filter for $18 from www.fleetfilter.com part # 46637. I think its 7-8" in diameter. And it has a really cool sound
Sounds good PowerStroke! I went ahead and ordered it. I just got my exhaust in the mail so we will see what kind power I am getting now with the two combined.
So I finally received that filter yesterday and managed to put it on after a little struggle. I have not really had the chance to drive on it much but I can tell a little difference. I am sure that when I put my exhaust on that it will make quite a difference. Thank you for the help!

Well, by just adding the filter I can't really tell a big difference. Maybe a little bit on the highway but that is about it. I am putting my 4" MBRP exhaust on in a couple of days and I am hoping that there will be a noticeable difference. Does anybody know anything about blow off valves?? I figure that will give a nice amount of power!

4" exhaust will give you more turbo whistle and keep EGT's down.
Don't expect a big power difference from intake and exhaust changes. I have a '00 with an automatic. The engine seemed more responsive after changing the intake and exhaust, but when pulling hills or accelerating to freeway speed, I couldn't feel much, if any, difference.
